Referral To A Specialist
Your Primary Care Physician is Key
It is Westshore Primary Care's goal to help you achieve quality, cost-effective health care for you and your family.
Your primary care physician is the key to achieving this goal for you and your managed care insurance plan. Your physician provides quality, cost-effective care in his or her office and, if needed, can coordinate additional health care services outside of the office. Based on Medical necessity, your primary care physician will be able to refer you to a specialist. However, a referral cannot be made without an evaluation by your primary care physician.
If you go to a specialist without a referral, your specialist claim may be denied by your insurance company and the bill will become your responsibility. Due to contractual obligations with your insurance company, we cannot backdate or give you retroactive referrals.
Emergency room visits are an expensive form of treatment when not deemed Medically necessary by your insurance company. Therefore, Westshore Primary Care has extensive evening and weekend hours, including Sundays. Should an emergency arise with you or a family member, please contact Westshore Primary Care or the answering service before going to the emergency room. We may be able to provide you with an appointment and eliminate a costly visit to the emergency room.
We recommend that you familiarize yourself with your insurance policy guidelines and benefits. Any questions that you may have can be addressed through your insurance company or benefits administrator.
