Physician Spotlight: Dr. David Gumucio

When Dr. David Gumucio provides medical care for young families, he’s working from personal experience. Dr. Gumucio, D.O. learned plenty of useful skills while receiving his doctorate and completing his family medicine residency, but his experience as a husband and a father allows him to relate to the young parents seeking medical advice for their children.

As a family practice physician at Westshore’s Rocky River location, Dr. Gumucio is committed to providing passionate and comprehensive care for all of his patients. He started with Westshore in July of 2014, something the avid sports fan always remembers as it coincided with LeBron James’ return to the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, his informal medical education goes back to his own childhood.

Inspired by Family to Pursue Family Practice

It’s appropriate that Dr. Gumucio works in family practice because his family helped inspire him to pursue a medical career. The second-youngest of five children, David grew up seeing both of his parents make a difference by helping others. His dad served as a medical liaison to the local Spanish-speaking community, while his mom and sister are both special education teachers.

Both of those experiences had a big impact on his professional life. Thanks to his Spanish-speaking parents, he has a strong enough grasp of the language and culture to better help patients who aren’t native English speakers. His mother’s work also drove him to work with young patients with special needs.

Healthy Home Improvement Outside of the Office

When Dr. Gumucio isn’t working to improve the health of his patients, he enjoys being a husband and a dad. He can often be found at home attending to home improvement projects with his wife and father-in-law, whether it’s a new project or regular maintenance.

Dr. Gumucio also practices what he preaches. The doctor makes sure to live a healthy, active lifestyle to help prevent health issues. Still, this doesn’t prevent him from going out and enjoying Cleveland’s great food scene from time to time. Like a lot the parents who visit his office, he’s also raising and taking care of a young child, which gives him a better understanding of what a parent goes through when they’re at a doctor’s appointment.

Dr. Gumucio knows the importance of family health. If you’re in need of a family practice physician who can help your family stay healthy, give Westshore a call at (440) 333-1107 or contact Westshore online and set up an appointment with Dr. Gumucio today.
